Merkel: Libyan political negotiations should resume on the basis of the Abu Dhabi agreement

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

German Chancellor Angela Merkel received Fayez al-Sarraj, head of the Tripoli-based Presidential Council, on Tuesday in Berlin after the latter’s arrival from the Italian capital Rome.

German Ambassador to Libya Oliver Owcza said that the visit discussed the situation in Libya following the military offensive of the LNA.

Merkel “called upon both parties to return to the political process and resume negotiations under UN lead, based on the Abu Dhabi agreement,” according to Owcza.

“The Chancellor and PM Sarraj also discussed the need of humanitarian access, in particular to Detention Centers. She likewise welcomed the humanitarian ceasefire throughout Ramadan suggested by UN SRSG.” Owcza added.
