NATO Secretary General to meet UN Special Envoy to Libya on Monday

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

BRUSSELS –  Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg, is scheduled to meet the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salamé, at NATO Headquarters Monday.

According to a statement released by NATO on Friday, Salamé will also attend a meeting of the North Atlantic Council.

Salamé is currently in a tour to European capitals to discuss ways to immediately stop the fighting and resume a political dialogue in Libya.

Clashes erupted in Tripoli between the Libyan National Army (LNA) and militias of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) after LNA launched a military operation in the capital on April 4. LNA’s operation aims to eliminate militias and terrorist groups that dominated the capital since 2011.
