The Address | Benghazi – Libya
BRUSSELS – European Union foreign affairs commissioner Federica Mogherini met in Brussels on Monday with the Head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj, to discuss a number of issues related to Libya.
Before her meeting with al-Sarraj, Mogherini said that the Libyan file is the main point on the agenda of the EU foreign affairs council today.
She confirmed that they would listen to a briefing of the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, on the latest developments in the country.
A discussion will be made about how the United Nations will help bring all Libyan parties back into the political process, Mogherini added.
She emphasized the importance of ensuring access to humanitarian assistance and the need to protect civilians, in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to protect and assist migrants in detention centers.
