WASHINGTON – An American lobbying firm has helped Head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, to write an op-ed piece for the Wall Street Journal a week ago, American news website Politico reported.
Beth DeFalco, a managing director at Mercury, pitched Al-Sarraj’s op-ed to an unspecified news outlet, according to a recent Justice Department filing. The op-ed appeared last week in an edited form in the Wall Street Journal.
In the op-ed, Al-Sarraj appealed to United States President Donald Trump for help after the latter announced his support for the efforts of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar in combating terrorism.
Al-Monitor news website reported in early May that GNA has signed a $2 million deal with an American public strategy firm to lobby Congress and the White House.
