Bashagha apologizes to French ambassador for earlier statements criticizing the French role in Libya

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

Interior Minister of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord, Fathi Bashagha, met in Tunisia the French Ambassador to Libya Beatrice Duhailin and where the two discussed security cooperation between his government and Paris.

The meeting comes after the GNA decided last April to suspend security cooperation with France because of what it described as “French support” for the Libyan National Army led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

Some circles considered that this meeting was different from the diplomatic protocol, where the GNA minister went to the residence of the ambassador to apologize for his remarks towards France, in which he criticized the French role in Libya.

On the other hand, Paris rejected the accusations, stressing its support for a comprehensive political solution in Libya.
