GNA requested military support from Algeria – Independent

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

ALGERIA – The head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez al-Sarraj, left Algeria after a visit continued for hours, leaving behind several question marks on the causes and consequences.

It seems that Algeria supports the government of al-Sarraj, at the expense of the leader of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, who chose the military solution that Algeria entirely rejects.

Authorized sources said al-Sarraj requested military and intelligence assistance from Algeria, as Haftar, with the support of well-known international parties, was trying to change the balance of power on the ground ahead of the the Libyan National Reconciliation Conference under the auspices of the UN, which Algeria called for within the framework of its work to bring together the views of various Libyan forces in order to sit at the dialogue table and declare a national reconciliation to end the crisis that afflicts the country and threaten the future of the Libyans, the Independent newspaper reported.

Libyan military leaders accompanied al-Sarraj and met with leaders of the Algerian Army, the sources added.
