Marshal Haftar: Political solution in Libya depends on getting rid of militias

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

LIBYA – The General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, stressed that the political solution will remain the main objective in Libya, but that is dependent on the elimination of militias.

The goal is to hold fair and transparent elections, noting that the electoral process can not proceed and the Libyan people to vote freely before ensuring security and stability, he stressed.

Marshal Haftar said in an interview with the French daily Le Journal de Dimanche that the problem in Libya was a security one, stressing that there is no political solution in the presence of militias and terrorist groups.

We had to use military solutions to open the way for a political solution, he said. This was not our choice. The war was imposed on us by Fayez al-Sarraj, who imposed a general mobilization to confront us. We only reacted, LNA Commander added.

The solution is to bring peace and security in Tripoli, and to rid the capital of the burden of militias, Haftar pointed out.
