The Address | Benghazi – Libya
ROME – Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi on Friday told the House and Senate foreign and defense commissions that “the situation in Libya is of extreme difficulty”. “Action probably needs significant patience”, he said, “especially wider international collaboration”. “In particular, a much more active and visible engagement of the European Union is necessary”.
Speaking about the situation in Libya, Milanesi stressed that “we cannot think that only one country, although close, can bring stabilization”.
The foreign minister also spoke about migration, saying that he is “convinced that humanitarian corridors for refugees are the only solution. Refugees that have the right to asylum cannot be left in the hands of human traffickers. After all, nobody should be left in the hands of these criminal organizations”.
