The Address | Benghazi – Libya
MECCA – Head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, arrived in Mecca yesterday to take part in the 14th session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Mecca.
The OIC summit mainly discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as well as ongoing tensions with Iran.
Despite attending the OIC summit, Al-Sarraj chose not to attend the Arab League summit which was also held in Mecca prior to the OIC summit.
Al-Sarraj’s absence from the Arab League summit came after the High Council of State, chaired by prominent member of the Muslim Brotherhood Khaled Al-Mishri, has called on GNA to boycott the summit over the Arab nations’ support for the military operation of the Libyan National Army (LNA) in Tripoli.
