MOSCOW – Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salamé, has arrived in Moscow where he met with Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov.
According to a statement by UNSMIL, Salamé discussed latest developments in Libya with the Russian diplomat and “briefed him on UNSMIL’s planned initiatives to end the fighting” in Tripoli.
For his part, Lavrov expressed full support for Salamé’s efforts. He stressed the need to stop the fighting and resume political track.
In a similar context, Salamé met also with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. “They discussed the latest developments in Libya and discussions in the Security Council, emphasizing the need for a political solution to the Libyan crisis,” UNSMIL said.
