The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya, Ghassan Salame, visited Ahmed Ben Shatwan School, which receives migrants displaced from areas of fighting in Tripoli and was briefed on their needs and on the work of United Nations agencies in the school.

The Special Representative commended the effort of the crisis cell and the authorities of the Tripoli Municipality and the Red Crescent to provide support and urged all concerned to accelerate, facilitate and enable the voluntary repatriation of displaced persons.

“I would like to thank the generosity of the Libyan people, who welcomed these brothers in humanity from other countries and took care of them. This is a sign of kindness and generosity of the Libyan people, especially the people of Tripoli,” he added.

It is noteworthy that reports issued by international organizations had criticized the conditions of migrants detention centers in the Western region over the past days.
