Death toll of Tripoli clashes climbs to 653, WHO

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – The death toll of clashes in Tripoli has climbed to 653 dead, including 41 civilians, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday.

WHO added that 3,547 people were wounded during the clashes, 126 of whom are civilians.

Clashes erupted in Tripoli between the Libyan National Army (LNA) and militias of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) after LNA launched a military operation in the capital on April 4. LNA’s operation aims to eliminate militias and terrorist groups that dominated the capital since 2011.

Along with a call for an immediate cease-fire, U.N. humanitarian officials say they urgently need more than $10 million to keep helping beleaguered civilians in Libya.
