Governor of CBL’s Bayda branch holds talks with U.S. officials in Tunisia

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TUNIS – The Governor of the Bayda-based Central Bank of Libya (CBL), Ali Al-Hibri, met in Tunisia today with the United States’ Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, and the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Deputy Assistant Secretary of Africa Nations, Eric Meyer.

The three interlocutors discussed the financial and economic situation in Libya and the challenges faced by the CBL at the local and international levels.

This comes after CBL’s Tripoli-based Governor Sadiq al-Kabir had similar meeting with U.S. officials in Tunisia yesterday.

CBL is divided into two branches; one is under the authority of the House of Representatives in eastern Libyan and the other is under the authority of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA).

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is seeking a reunification of Libya’s financial and economic institutions as part its overall peace plan.
