The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TUNIS – The Tunisian army and security forces raised on Saturday the state of alert on the eastern border with Libya in anticipation of possible developments in the conflict around Tripoli.
Units of the army and security forces were deployed in the state of Medenine, bordering the eastern border with Libya, to secure New Year’s celebrations, according to the Tunisian National Radio.
The region includes tourist resorts in the city of Zarzis and the island of Djerba belonging to the state, and it usually witnesses an influx of tourists from Algeria and Libya in this period of the year.
The alert comes in light of the operation being conducted by the Libyan National Army, led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, to liberate Tripoli from the grip of the terrorist militias allied with the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA).
