TRIPOLI – Libya has deported 124 migrants on Wednesday back to Niger, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The UNHCR said that “We wish them a better year ahead and we will endeavour to help the most vulnerable refugees to safety out of Libya in the coming months”.
A huge number of illegal migrants, who are mainly Africans, cross the Mediterranean from Libya going to Europe as a result of the chaos in the North African nation since 2011.
There are about 4,200 people held in detention centers in Libya for now, the UNHCR said.
