TRIPOLI – At least 30 people were killed and 33 others wounded in an attack on a military academy in Tripoli on Saturday, according to multiple media reports.
The attack happened in an area controlled by militias allied with the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA).
Both GNA-allied militias and the Libyan National Army (LNA) have traded accusations over the attack’s responsibility.
In April, LNA launched a military operation to fight against militias and terrorist groups, which have been the main cause of chaos in the capital since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. In response, GNA forged an alliance with these militias, claiming that LNA wants to overthrow Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj.
