SIRTE – Forces of the Libyan National Army (LNA) continue its advances in Sirte and controls new positions in the city.
LNA’s 192 infantry battalion commander Captain Omar Abessit confirmed that the armed forces had taken control of Al-Saadi battalion camp in the Bohadi area in east of Sirte.
On Monday, LNA forces took control of a number of important military locations in Sirte such as Al Qardabiyah base, Al-Saadi camp and the port of Sirte.
Sources confirmed that militias allied with the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) withdrew from the city.
In April, LNA launched a military operation to fight against militias and terrorist groups, which have been the main cause of chaos in the capital since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. In response, GNA forged an alliance with these militias, claiming that LNA wants to overthrow Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj.
