The Address | Benghazi – Libya
ANKARA – Sources within the Italian prime minister’s office said there is a “continuity of dialogue” between Italy and Turkey that forms the basis of a visit to Turkey on Monday by Italian Premier Giuseppe Conte, who will meet in Ankara with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The sources recalled that Conte met with Erdogan four months ago on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and spoke with Erdogan by phone just prior to Christmas.
Erdogan is an Italian partner of “absolute geostrategic relevance in the region”, the sources said.
Conte will meet with Erdogan at 2 p.m. local time (noon in Italy) at the presidential palace in Ankara.
On Tuesday, Conte will travel to Egypt to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the Egyptian presidential palace in Cairo at 9:30 a.m. local time.
The focus of both meetings is the current situation in Libya.
