Erdogan insists on continuing his support for Sarraj

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: “Turkey supports Fayez al-Sarraj, head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) and his forces, and we do not support an unrecognized person in Libya. We will not leave the Head of GNA alone, and we intend to support him.”

Erdogan added in a press conference with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in Ankara: “Turkish soldiers will provide support to the Libyan side in training activities, and this is a right generated by Turkey’s past in Libya and the invitation addressed to us. We are determined not to leave our Libyan brothers alone in this difficult time

Erdogan continued his allegations: “Turkey and Germany attach priority to solving problems through dialogue, and there is a difference between agreeing to the Berlin Conference’s 55-article statement and signing it, and Haftar did not sign it,” he said.

For her part, Merkel said: “The articles that we adopted at the Berlin Conference on Libya will be endorsed by the UN Security Council, and efforts must be made to make the fragile ceasefire in Libya firm.”
