TRIPOLI – Witnesses in Tripoli confirmed the approaching of two military frigates accompanied by a helicopter off the coast of Tripoli, in the first landing of Turkish soldiers in Libya.
The witnesses pointed out that the two frigates began the landing operations of Turkish soldiers, at dawn today, Wednesday, in the Al-Shaab port in Tripoli, by a cargo ship that was accompanying the two frigates.
Al Arabiya.net said, “For the first time since Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced his intention to support the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), a cargo ship escorted the two warships to land in turn, despite his commitment at the Berlin conference not to interfere in Libya or send troops or mercenaries.”
Al Arabiya correspondent explained that the two ships carry the names “Gaziantep” and “Qediz”.
Special Deterrence Force and al-Nawasi militiasand were responsible for securing their arrival at the al-Shaab port in Tripoli.
The reporter confirmed that the equipment and ammunition were transferred to the Mataiqa air base in the center of the capital.
It is noteworthy that the landing of the Turkish forces by the two frigates is the first since the declaration of Libyan independence and the announcement of the withdrawal of foreign forces from Libya in 1970.
