United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned of Libya’s descending into a deeper and more devastating conflict fueled by the participation of outside powers.

During the African Union Peace and Security Council summit in Addis Ababa, Guterres stressed the need for the Libyan parties to find and manage national solutions to meet internal challenges.

“Despite the glimmer of hope offered by the Berlin conference, the international community’s commitment to ending foreign interference has not materialized on the ground,” Guterres added, noting that the continued flow of weapons and the return of military operations have further complicated the humanitarian situation in the country.
