TRIPOLI – Libyan social media activists circulated leaked photos showing the deployment of Turkish air defense systems in the civilian part of Mitiga airport in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

The photos taken by one of the civil aviation passengers at Mitiga airport showed the air defense system near the control tower.

The photos also showed the wing of the civilian aircraft on which they were taken and other civilian aircraft next to the Turkish defense system.

The defense system brought by Turkey is an American system, but Ankara makes the most recent version (XX1) with a license, in addition to having the older version of this system (Phase 1).

The spokesman of the Libyan National Army (LNA) had confirmed in a previous press conference that the militias of Tripoli and Turkey had taken advantage of the armistice and installed an American air defense system at Mitiga airport, in addition to sending weapons, artillery and Syrian mercenaries to Tripoli.
