Libyan Foreign Ministry denies appointing ambassador to Syria

BENGHAZI – The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation denied the rumors that an ambassador of Libya to the Syrian Republic had been named.

The Ministry stated in a statement on its official Facebook page, that the procedures for appointing ambassadors are subject to specific criteria and procedures that go through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister, and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR), and then it is voted on in HoR.

It is noteworthy that news had circulated on social media that the Libyan government had announced the nomination of who will be the Libyan ambassador to Syria.

The Libyan Foreign Ministry had announced on Tuesday the opening of the Libyan embassy in Damascus, which had been closed since 2011.
