TRIPOLI – The U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Libya met with the Interior Minister of the Tripoli-based Government of “National Accord” (GNA) and National Security Advisor on Monday, said U.S. embassy in Libya today, without mentioning where the meeting took place.
“During Ambassador Norland’s absence for the global Chiefs of Mission conference in Washington, Charge d’Affaires a.i. Joshua Harris met with GNA Minister of Interior Fathi Bashagha and National Security Advisor Taj al-Din al-Rezagi on March 2 to reiterate U.S. support for all Libyan efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire and come together in peaceful dialogue,” the Embassy pointed out.
The Minister outlined efforts to reduce the role of militias as part of building legitimate security forces to serve the Libyan people, it added.
Charge Harris emphasized that the Embassy will work with Minister Bashagha to ensure full implementation of U.S. Executive Order 13726, which allows for sanctions against individuals that threaten the peace, security, and stability of Libya, according to the embassy.
