UNICEF concerned about disinterest in children’s rights in Libya

TRIPOLI – The situation in Libya, as stated by UNICEF representative Juliette Touma, has worsened significantly in recent weeks.

UNICEF notes a situation of total interest in respect for the respect of children’s rights in Libya, despite the good intentions exposed at the recent Berlin conference.

“There seems to be complete disinterest in children and their rights,” said Touma on the sidelines of the 2nd International Humanitarian Forum,” Touma told reporters.

According to the official, UNICEF expected a clear improvement in the situation in Libya, but in reality there has been a further escalation of the conflict.

“It is unacceptable and it is something that the parties to the conflict, whatever they are and wherever they are, should take a consideration, because children must always be protected, even during a conflict,” concluded Touma.
