The African Union (AU) Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ismail Sharqi, called on the international community to “work unabated to make the Libyan rivals return to the negotiating table, especially after the resignation of the UN envoy Ghassan Salame.”

“It is imperative that the international community continue to work to silence the guns in Libya and compel the Libyan parties to return to the negotiating table,” Sharqi said in press statements.

Sharqi added he regrets the continued foreign intervention in Libya and the lack of respect for the UN’s arms embargo, noting that these interventions “complicate the process of searching for a solution to the Libyan crisis.”
