RAS LANUF, Libya – The Operation Department of the Libyan Company for Oil Ports prevented on Saturday a cargo ship coming from Italy from landing at Rad Lanuf oil port in eastern Libya to unload its shipment of oil equipment.
The ship was not allowed to enter Ras Lanuf port, according to the instructions of the General Administration of Ports Security, as a precaution to prevent reach of Coronavirus (COVID-19) to Libya, Ras Lanuf Port administration said in a statement.
The General Administration of Ports Security sent an order to the director of Ras Lanuf port to prevent the entry of the ship coming from Italy to the oil port, as a precautionary measure for combating the possibilities of Corona virus reach in Libya, the statement pointed out.
The Italian ship was loaded with oil equipment in Italy, part of which was unloaded in the port of Tripoli, and then continued its journey towards the port of Ras Lanuf to unload the rest of the shipment, represented in equipment and tools for some oil companies operating in Libya, according to the statement.
It is noteworthy that the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA), in coordination with the Libyan Interim Government, the Ministry of Interior and local authorities, closed all land, air and sea ports, and also prevented the movement of travelers to and from Libya, with the exception of return of Libyans and departure of foreigners to Libyan territory.
