82 prisoners released from Tripoli prison over Coronavirus fears

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – The Head of the Judicial Police in Tripoli, Brigadier Abdel-Ghani al Harati, has announced the release of 82 prisoners from the central prison of the Libyan capital.

The release of these common prisoners is part of the procedures set out in the emergency plan against the spread of Coronavirus.

The judicial police in Tripoli are trying to reduce overcrowding in Libyan prisons.

Before being released, prisoners will undergo clinical tests.

Yesterday the judicial police decided to release 70 detainees who had been “arrested in connection with drug and alcohol cases”, thus reducing congestion in the capital’s prisons.

Libya has recorded one case of Coronavirus so far.
