CAIRO – The Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ambassador Hossam Zaki, held on Thursday a video conference with the Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Williams, during which they discussed the overall arrangements for holding the upcoming meeting of the International Follow-up Committee for Libya emanating from the Berlin Conference.
Both sides also discussed the importance of the committee’s coming out with a “clear and strong” message renewing the demand to stop the military operations between the two parties to the conflict in Libya, according to a statement by the Arab League.
and to abide by the humanitarian truce that allows national efforts to focus on facing the dangers of the outbreak of the “Corona virus” in the country.
The two sides stressed the need to maximize international efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire in Libya, and to encourage the Libyan parties to continue their engagement in the three tracks of security, political and economic settlement, sponsored by the United Nations.
Implementing the UN arms embargo and stopping foreign interference in Libya were also among the issues discussed by both sides.
