IOM: 5 migrants died, and 7 others disappeared while being returned to Libya

The Libyan Address Journal

At least five migrants have died and seven have disappeared when the Tripoli-based Coast Guard returned 49 migrants to the Libyan capital on Wednesday, as fighting rages there between the forces of the National Accord Government and the Libyan National Army, the International Organization for Migration said.

The Intergovernmental organization explained that a merchant ship from Malta took the migrants from a rubber boat and handed them to the Libyan coast guard, who transported them to a naval base in Tripoli, where they were allowed to land after a delay of several hours.

There was suspicion of allowing the landing of the migrants by the Libyan Coast Guard in Tripoli, and last week a group of about 280 migrants was not allowed to land at night due to the bombing of the port, IOM said.
