Sharqi: The international community must implement the arms embargo on Libya

The Libyan Address Journal

Ismail Sharqi, the African Union’s Commissioner for Peace and Security, said that the continued fighting in Libya should represent a call for the international community to wake up and intervene to enforce the arms embargo and to confront those who violate the embargo or continue to interfere in Libya’s internal affairs.

It is up to the United Nations and stakeholders who participated in the Berlin Conference on Libya, to compel the parties to end hostilities in order to address the health crisis that the Coronavirus pandemic may lead to in Libya, Sharqi added.

Sharqi also said that any effort to stop arms smuggling into Libya must be comprehensive and transparent, pointing out that the arms embargo was publicly violated.
