French frigate deployed in the Mediterranean to enforce arms embargo on Libya

PAIRS – The French military announced this Thursday morning that since May 4 the anti-aircraft frigate Jean-Bart has been engaged in the framework of the European Union’s operation IRINI.

This prevention operation was launched on April 1, 2020 . Its main objective is to contribute to the implementation of the 2016 United Nations resolution on the arms embargo on Libya (UNSCR 2292).

This deployment comes a few days after the temporary deployment of the light stealth frigate Aconit within operation IRINI, which now continues its mission in the Mediterranean Sea.

IRINI is headed by Italian Rear Admiral Fabio Agostini and its headquarters are located in Rome.
