The Address | Benghazi – Libya
ROME – Italy has welcomed on Sunday the initiative to resolve the Libyan crisis announced by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi yesterday.
“Italy has always been supportive of any initiative which, if accepted by all parties involved and within the framework of the Berlin process, could favor a political solution of the Libyan crisis,” reads the statement of the Italian foreign ministry.
“To this end, Italy invites all parties involved to undertake a good faith commitment to restart 5 + 5 negotiations with a constructive attitude, in order to define a durable cease-fire under UN guidance.”
El-Sisi’s initiative calls for a ceasefire as of Monday, 8 June, and the obligation of foreign parties to remove mercenaries, dismantle militias and hand over their weapons, as well as complete the path of the Military 5+5 talks in Geneva.
