Germany calls for investigation into extrajudicial killings in Tarhuna

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – Germany has called for an independent investigation of reports of extrajudicial killings committed by armed groups affiliated with the Government of National Accord (GNA) in the city of Tarhuna.

“We are disturbed by reports of extrajudicial killings in Tarhuna and join the call for an independent investigation,” German Ambassador to Libya Oliver Owcza tweeted on Sunday.

“We are also concerned about reported acts of revenge and looting,“ he added.

The United Nations Mission in Libya confirmed in a statement earlier today that acts of looting and retribution have taken place in Tarhuna. The UN also said that over 1,600 Libyans were displaced from Tarhuna and Greater Tripoli in the past few days.

GNA armed groups took over Tarhuna two days ago after the Libyan National Army (LNA) decided to withdrew from the city to pave the way for political conciliation.
