Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades said that the Turkish president is problematic and wants to turn Turkey into a Mediterranean superpower, which translates into Ankara’s expansionist actions in the region.

In an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt, Anastasiades added that illegal activities in the Cypriot waters are part of Turkey’s changing policies in the eastern Mediterranean, noting that there are other examples of these expansion activities in Syria, Libya and against Greece.

The Cypriot President explained that the Turkish drilling operations off the coast of Cyprus contradict international law and violate the sovereignty of Cyprus, noting that Turkey is not ready to resume the dialogue.
