Sisi: Militias presence threatens to turn Libya into tensions hub in the region

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed on Thursday that the presence of militias in Libya threatens to turn the country into a hotbed of tension in the region, which could extends into Europe.

During a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias in Cairo today, Sisi said that his country’s peace initiative for Libya, known as the Cairo Declaration, aims mainly to restore the role of state institutions and fill the power vacuum in an institutionalized way, the absence of which gave the space to the presence of armed militias and increased their activity.
