US State Department: The expected Turkish attack on Sirte is rejected

LIBYA – The US State Department renewed its rejection of foreign military intervention in Libya, stressing the need for an immediate ceasefire, confirming its rejection of the attack being prepared for by the Tripoli-based Government of “National Accord” (GNA) and Turkish forces on Sirte.

The Department called for respecting the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations on Libya, urging the Libyan parties to abide by the cease-fire and resume negotiations urgently.

In statements to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, the US State Department said that it is necessary to build on the progress made by the ongoing Libyan military talks, adding that it informed Fayez al-Sarraj of its rejection of the attack, which GNA and the Turks are preparing for.
