The Address | Benghazi – Libya
MOSCOW – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met in Moscow today with Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh, who arrived yesterday on an official visit to Russia.
Lavrov announced during this meeting that Moscow decided to resume the activities of its embassy in Libya.
Addressing HoR Speaker, Lavrov said: “I would like to inform you that we have decided to resume the activities of the Russian embassy in Libya, which will be led at this point by the Chargé d’Affairs Jamshid Poltayev. It will be temporarily based in Tunisia, but I would like to confirm that its functions include representation of Russia throughout Libya.”
The head of Russian diplomacy expressed his country’s welcome for the steps taken towards the resumption of the Libyan diplomatic presence in Damascus.
Lavrov pointed out that the restoration of the presence of the Arab countries in Damascus will contribute to the Syrian settlement.
“This process has already begun,” the Russian foreign minister said in this regard. “I know that you also plan to take steps in this direction, and we welcome that.”
