The Address | Benghazi – Libya

GENEVA – The Speaker of Libya’s House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, will travel to Geneva to urge the United Nations to implement the Cairo Declaration, a initiative supported by Egypt aimed at solving the Libyan crisis, according to local media reports.

The initiative, announced on June 6 by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi, calls for the implementation of a permanent ceasefire; the withdrawal of all foreign mercenaries from Libyan territory; the dismantling of militias;  and the formation of a new Presidential Council including a President, two Vice-Presidents and a Prime Minister.

The Egyptian proposal was rejected by the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA).
