LNA vows to fight Turkish ‘occupation’ in Libya

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

BENGHAZI – The Libyan National Army (LNA) has vowed to fight Turkey’s military presence in Libya “in every possible way”.

Speaking to local press, LNA’s media official Brigadier Khaled Al Mahjoub described Ankara’s presence in the country as an “occupation”, adding that the army and the parliament will fight this occupation “in every possible way”.

Al Mahjoub’s remarks came following an attack on Turkey’s Hawk air defense systems in Libya’s al-Watiya Air Base on Sunday. LNA has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Ankara established a military foothold in Libya after signing a security agreement with the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) last year. As part of the agreement, Turkish troops as well as Ankara-backed Syrian mercenaries were deployed to support GNA in an effort fight LNA in western Libya.
