The Address | Benghazi – Libya
GENEVA – The Moroccan Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, has expressed concern and disappointment over the continuing deterioration of the situation in Libya.
Speaking during a ministers-level UN Security Council video conference on Wednesday, Bourita stressed the international consensus on Libya must be translated into strong and concrete actions.
“There is a need to be realistic and pragmatic in dealing with the situation. The proliferation of initiatives has the opposite effect,” he said. “Libya is not a diplomatic business”.
“The Skhirat Agreement is not perfect. But no valid alternative is on the table. Its provisions must be adjusted and updated by the Libyan brothers, “said Bourita, in a reference to the 2015 Libyan political agreement.
“Libya is not only a neighbor of Morocco. It is a brotherly country with which we share a common history, common ties, interests and a common destiny,” he said.
“For us, Libya is not just a diplomatic issue. Our stability and security depend on the situation in Libya, ”concluded the minister.
