The Address | Benghazi – Libya
ROME – Italy’s Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, affirmed on Thursday that Egypt is a country in the fight against terrorism and human trafficking in Libya.
Speaking during a parliamentary hearing, Di Maio said that “Egypt is a country with which we have an interest in maintaining relationships for the common management of dossiers such as Libya, where Cairo plays an essential collaboration in the fight against terrorism and human trafficking”.
“In all these areas, cooperation [with Egypt] benefits to our national interest, not only in terms of bilateral collaboration, but also in the stabilization of the common neighborhood,” said the Italian top diplomat.
“Therefore,” continued Di Maio, “it is necessary to continue developing dialogue with Cairo on issues of common interest”.
