Algeria denies rumors of involvement alongside Egypt in Libya

ALGIERS – The Algerian Defense Ministry has denied rumors about a possible involvement of the country alongside Egypt in the ongoing crisis in Libya.

In a statement on Thursday, the ministry denied the words attributed to the army chief of staff, Said Chengriha, that “the Algerian armed forces will take a stand alongside Egypt in the event of a military action in Libya against the forces supported by Turkey”.

“A series of false and unfounded information has been propagated on social media networks which were attributed to the Army Chief of Staff declarations on recent developments in Libya,” reads the statement.

“By denying these rumors, the ministry specifies that this false information aims to sow disorder, chaos and to redirect public opinion and undermines the unchangeable position that Algeria has always secured for the brotherly state of Libya,” concludes the statement.
