GNA Head receives Italian Defense Minister in Tripoli

TRIPOLI – The Head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj, met Wednesday at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli, Italian Defence Minister, Lorenzo Guerini.

GNA media office said the visit of the Italian minister comes within the framework of consultation and exchange of views between the two friendly countries. The meeting discussed developments in Libya and a number of joint cooperation issues.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of returning to the political track in accordance with the Security Council resolutions and the outputs of the Berlin Conference, and reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement, according to the Office.

The meeting dealt with the issue of the return of Italian companies to resume their activities in Libya, and the two sides stressed the absolute necessity for the return of oil production under the supervision of the Libyan National Oil Corporation, GNA media office added.

The meeting was attended by the accompanying delegation of the Minister, which included the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Puccino and other officials. On GNA side, it was attended by Deputy Head Ahmed Maitiq and Foreign Minister, Mohamed Siala.
