After NCDC announcement of epidemiological situation exacerbation in Misrata, American journalist confirms: mercenaries are main reason for COVID-19 outbreak in the city

MISRATA – The American journalist specializing in Middle East affairs, Lindsay Snell, said on Monday that the city of Misrata has become the focus of an outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in Libya due to the influx of Syrian mercenaries loyal to Turkey who are fighting in the ranks of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) against the Libyan National Army (LNA).

In the same context, “Fazat Misrata” movement in the city demanded Sunday the removal of corrupt officials in GNA institutions who caused collapse of health system in the municipality, warning to escalate actions in case necessary needs to confront the pandemic are not provided soon.

For his part, the Director of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Badr al-Najar, confirmed that the epidemiological situation had exacerbated in Tripoli and Misrata, indicating the accumulation of samples and delay of results.
