US Ambassador: We support a demilitarized solution around Sirte and neutral security arrangements for the city

The Libyan Address Journal

The US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, affirmed his country’s support for “a demilitarized solution around Sirte, establishing neutral security arrangements for the city, ending foreign interference in Libya, and stopping military escalation,” noting that Washington “is not the only one to support this proposal that aims to help the Libyans.”

In press statements, Norland explained that his recent visit to Cairo took place in the context of recent talks between US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and between Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry. “The idea was to pursue those talks to try to seize an opportunity that we hope will eventually lead to the exit of all foreign forces from Libya.”
