The head of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord in Libya, Fayez Al-Sarraj, announced his intention to conduct an urgent ministerial reshuffle, especially with regard to the service ministries.

Al-Sarraj stressed, during a televised speech, that the selection of the new ministers would be “on the basis of competence, capabilities, and incorruptibility.”

He added, “We may resort to taking exceptional measures to implement the government’s amendments to overcome the quota system problem.”

The head of the Presidential Council called on the judicial institutions and the Attorney General’s office to take firm measures against every public employee suspected of corruption.

Al-Sarraj stressed that “the only option is to reproduce the authorities through direct elections in which the people regain their right as the source of legitimacy,” saying that “there are some parties that do not want to hold elections for their own accounts.”

Al-Sarraj renewed his call for general elections next March, as outlined in a statement he issued last Friday, in conjunction with a similar statement from the President of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh.
