LNA denies targeting GNA forces west of Sirte

The Libyan National Army, led by General Khalifa Haftar, has denied that its units had targeted the Government of National Accord forces in western Sirte, after the GNA forces operations room in Sirte announced that the army had targeted its forces in the early morning hours with more than 12 rockets.

“Some media and social media are reporting false news that the Libyan National Army units have targeted the militias in the area of operations west of Sirte with artillery,” a statement by the LNA spokesperson, Ahmed Al-Mismari, said.

The statement confirmed the incorrectness of this news and “categorically” denied it, stressing the commitment of the Libyan National Army to the cease-fire announced on June 8.

The army accused the militias of “spreading such false news to justify the hostile operations they will undertake against our forces to cover up the popular demonstrations rejecting the continuation of the Sarraj government and the Turkish invasion and its mercenaries and the criminal militias that control the capital, Tripoli.”
