The Address | Benghazi – Libya
BENGHAZI – The spokesman of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Major General Ahmed Al-Mesmari, has denied allegations that LNA has violated the ceasefire, instead accusing militias of the Government of National Accord (GNA) of advancing towards the city of Jufra.
In press remarks on Tuesday, Al-Mesmari said that the GNA delegation visiting Cairo “has no authority to implement what it says on the ground”, and “it cannot impose any solution on the militias, especially the Misrata militia.”
“We seek to achieve the goals of Operation Dignity by fighting terrorism in Libya by peaceful solutions,” he said. “If the militias respond by handing over their weapons to the armed forces, we will go with peace until the prestige of the Libyan state is imposed.”
The LNA spokesman also clarified the ceasefire does not mean that the war ended but rather gives an opportunity for peace.
