TRIPOLI – The Interior Minister of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fathi Bashagha, was re-appointed to his post after GNA ended its three-day investigation against him.
He was suspended last week over his ministry’s violent crackdown on protesters.
He said in a statement posted online on Thursday that he had been reinstated after a five-hour hearing about the protests and the role of the security forces.
He added that the ministry will increase security coordination with GNA’s Presidential Council.
Bashagha, who was visiting the GNA’s main ally Turkey when he was suspended, was met on his return by his supporters and a convoy of military vehicles from Misrata.
